Is Apple Pie the Most American Dessert?

Lesson 30-8th Grade English

Here is the prompt:

Apple pie has long been considered the most American dessert. Why do you think this is? Do you think this is still accurate? What would you choose as the most American dessert?

I think that apple pie is considered the most American dessert because it was easy to make for early settlers and other people. Its pretty simple to make. It also has a very nice taste to it. If I remember, you can add cinnamon to the apples.

I wouldn’t say it’s the most popular anymore. Just because of all the other, newer desserts that have been created. Such as cheese cake, lava cake, etc. The most popular American dessert is chocolate chip cookies. According to research, it is the most preferred pie in America. In the nineteenth and twentieth century, apple pie became recognized as a symbol of American prosperity and national pride.

Apple pie originated either in England or the United States, probably the United States because in England. People add additional fruits besides apples. Some of them are figs, raisins, and pears.

Apple pie is very simple, and a lot of people have made it over the centuries.

Here’s a recipe for apple pie:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 to 7 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pastry for double-crust pie
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 large egg white
  • Additional sugar

  • In a small bowl, combine the sugars, flour and spices; set aside. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. Add sugar mixture; toss to coat.
  • Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom crust; trim even with edge. Fill with apple mixture; dot with butter. Roll remaining crust to fit top of pie; place over filling. Trim, seal and flute edges. Cut slits in crust.
  • Beat egg white until foamy; brush over crust. Sprinkle with sugar. Cover edges loosely with foil.
  • Bake at 375° for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly, 20-25 minutes longer. Cool on a wire rack.

If you choose to make it, tell me in the comments how it turned out!

This recipe is a bit more complicated, but if you tried, I’m sure you could find an easier recipe. As a baker, I think that this would easy, but that’s up to I guess.

I was just researching America’s favorite dessert and found out that it’s actually ice-cream. I was surprised because I thought that it was Choc. Chip Cookies. But which dessert is most popular is up to you. Personally, apple pie is a Thanksgiving favorite. Apple pie is high up on the list, I assure you. My favorite dessert is actually cherry or strawberry cheesecake. You don’t bake it, you freeze it. I think that it tastes way better than normal cheesecake. If you ever get the chance, you should try it.

Are People Better at Deciding if They Remain Neutral?

Lesson 31- 8th Grade English

Are people better at making observations, discoveries, and decisions if they remain neutral and impartial? Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

So, the first thing that I thought of was the presidential election. Would people be better at making decision if they didn’t know a lot about each president? Or would that make their decision harder?

I think that people would be better when they just remained neutral. The reasoning behind that is that people know less, so their decision is easier. For example, when they get judges for events, they make sure that the judge has no background with the contestants. This is so the judges make fair decisions.

Making observations is the same way. You might want to make an observation differently, because it’s based on their choice that they made of of their opinions.

Lesson 36-8th Grade Science

The ICS stands for Incident Command System. It is a part of SAR, which is Search and Rescue. It is a simple way of showing how SAR is organized and run.

ICS is important to SAR because it organizes the teams and the entire SAR organization. It allows the teams to work safely and orderly. It also helps manage the aftermath of a critical event. It ensures the safety of everyone present.

The ICS is built around 5 management activities:

COMMAND- Sets priorities and objectives and is responsible for overall command of the incident.

OPERATIONS- Has responsibility for all tactical operations necessary to carry out the plan.

PLANNING- Responsible for the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of information concerning incident development as well as the status of all available resources.

LOGISTICS- Responsible for providing the necessary support (facilities, services, and materials) to meet incident needs.

FINANCE- Responsible for monitoring and documenting all costs. Provides the necessary financial support related to the incident.

The American War for Independence

Lesson 25-8th grade History

The war for America’s independence began in 1775, and ended in 1783. The war marked the separation of the 13 colonies. This war was fought against the British and is one of the most significant events in American history.

The war started with British troops going to get a cannon and supplies from the town of Concord. However, the colonists had been given news that the British were coming and they assembled a militia. The British, not suspecting anything, went on to the town. They were greeted with a full militia of colonists. No one knows who fired the first shot, but that was the start of the first battle in the American War for independence. You actually couldn’t call it a battle, because it didn’t last that long, but it was important because it showed the colonists what they could do. The British were surprised, but they continued down to the town of Lexington.

Lexington had prepared a militia, but they didn’t plan to be hostile. As the British came up the hill, they fired at the militia, thus starting another battle. The colonists lost again, but the British suffered many casualties.

The colonists began digging trenches in the hills, so that they could surprise the British and get the upper hand in battle. The battle went well for both sides. On the British’s side, they gained the hills. On the colonists side, they now knew that they were just as strong as the British.

A Bad Day and How I Handled It

Lesson 20-8th grade English

When I play with my siblings, we sometimes get a bit rough. Ok, that’s an exaggeration. When we play, we play really rough. The accident that happened to me was with my brother.

We were playing on the floor, wrestling, when my brother rolled over my hand and I heard a crack. My thumb really hurt, and it was swollen. I didn’t think that I had broken it at first, but it didn’t stop hurting after a couple hours. I tried to bear the pain, but in the end, my mom took me to get an x-ray.

The doctors said that it wasn’t broken so we went home. It was still swollen the next day, and it hurt. They called us back the next day and said that it actually was a small fracture, which means that the bone cracked.

We went back to the hospital and waited for about 1 hour or longer. The doctor came in and gave me another x-ray, then went out again. We waited another 20 minutes. The doctor finally came in and gave my hand an inspection, saying that it was a clean fracture and that I didn’t need a cast, only a brace. This happened at the beginning of my 7th grade year, so I wasn’t allowed to do Athletics for 3 weeks.

The worst part of this whole thing was probably the waiting. My hand is all healed up and working perfectly. I had an overall great year in Athletics. That is how I handled one of the worst days in my life.

My Homeschool!

Lesson 19-8th grade English

My home-school is very independent. I do Ron Paul Curriculum, or RPC. The curriculum is all online. I like the independence of the curriculum, and it has been going well for me so far.

RPC makes you have a blog and a YT channel, and both those things I never had up until now. RPC makes it so you can be more grown up and feel independent. Parents don’t have to nag at you because you sign a contract that says you cannot get on gmail, or any other social media.

I love doing RPC because I have gotten to meet a lot of other students just like me who are the same age as me. I get to have a YT channel and blog, and those are very successful.

Please subscribe, it is greatly appreciated!

First, an important announcement to all my subscribers:

I will not be posting until I get my iPad, which will be in about a week or 2 weeks. I can’t draw on my laptop. So sorry about that, I am as eager as you are!

Thanks for your patience!

Now on to the assignment!

What I am writing about today is building a community. Building a community is bring all your subscribers together and making them dedicated fans of your channel.

There are 7 elements of building a community.

Creation Story

Sacred Words

The Leader

These all represent something in the YouTube platform. The Rituals, for example, are like specific things you and some other channels might do. Or Icons, which are your thumbnails or Profile picture.

Pagans are the kind of people who don’t like what you are doing on YouTube, and as much as you might love this idea, there are always going to be those kind of people out in the world. You can’t please everyone, but you can please those who like your content.

I hope this was helpful for other people struggling to make their YT channel grow.

Again, pls check out my channel and sub, thank you!

A time That I helped a Friend

Lesson 18- 8th Grade English

One time I helped out a friend was in 6th grade. Now, I’m not gonna lie, 6th grade was the Best year of my life in public school. My friend’s name is Jannessa. She is very short, shorter than most kids in the school, so she was bullied a little bit. One day, the kids were being mean to her because she talked a lot too, so after class, I went and told the principal. After that, she was still bullied, but not as much. It makes me feel good that I stopped a little bit of the meanness.

(If that’s the word)

The best Birthday Present

Lesson 17-8th grade English

The best birthday present I’ve ever had is a phone. I don’t have it anymore, but I got it for my 12 birthday. This was a pretty big accomplishment for my parents because they hate the fact kids have phones. What I loved about my phone are Youtube, Pinterest, Gacha Life, Merge dogs, and Whatsapp. I had a lot fun with my phone, and I am glad I got to experience what it was like to have a phone. I felt like I fit in better, because everyone else has a phone.
